Bruce:
When Sandi declared she was done photographing our vacations, I
decided to experiment with a manual SLR attached to my birding
scope. Twenty years as a birder had already taught me to slow down
and observe the details of my surroundings and had led to an interest
in nature overall, so I naturally focused the camera on flowers, insects,
butterflies, and all manner of flora and fauna.
With greater experience, I became more interested in the details of
composition, exposure, and lighting and applying that knowledge to
different subjects. Though initially reluctant to photograph people
because it seemed too intrusive, I now especially enjoy the challenge
of capturing an expression, mood, or perspective in candid portraits.
After several years of exhibiting and selling my work, in 2009 I began offering photography classes
through the Bob Jones Nature Center in Southlake, TX and through the Grapevine, TX Botanic
Gardens. I now offer several classes per year to beginner and more advanced students.

Sandi:
Traveling engages all of my senses, particularly my sense of wonder. Each trip is a
journey of discovery, even return visits to much-loved locations. There is always
something new to experience and learn. As a Spanish professor, one of my greatest
pleasures was leading study trips to Spain, Mexico, and Guatemala and helping
students begin to understand a culture other than their own.
I have lived and traveled widely in Spain and Latin America, and every trip enriches
my appreciation of Hispanic cultures. Oaxaca is one of my favorite destinations, and
I’ve been lucky to spend quite a bit of time there on multiple trips with students as
well as on vacations with Bruce. I am also a weaver and fascinated by all aspects of
textile production and use. I recently led weaving tours to Oaxaca and Peru. In fact,
textiles have taken Bruce and me to some very interesting places around the world!
Oaxaca is one of the richest textile areas of Latin America, and I look forward to
sharing that with you.
Sandi and Bruce Rosenstiel are well seasoned and enthusiastic travelers. Their interests in
photography, nature, world cultures, and textiles have taken them to over 50 countries on six continents.
You can count on their experience, attention to detail, energy, and sense of humor to make this a highly
enjoyable trip.
